Distinct house style

The Balvenie is a honeyed, textured Speyside malt supported by an uncommon degree of on-site craft, including floor maltings and cask maintenance.
The distillery retains floor maltings, an on-site cooperage and resident coppersmiths; these crafts support a honeyed make and an influential programme of cask finishing.

History
From its beginnings
William Grant built Balvenie beside Glenfiddich in 1892 and production began the following year. It has remained within the Grant family business.
The Balvenie remains an operating Scotch whisky distillery at Dufftown, Moray. Its present identity joins the accumulated fabric of the site to an active production tradition, while discontinued bottlings belong to the range history rather than defining the distillery today.

Identity
The character
The Balvenie belongs to Speyside, but region is only a map reference. Its more informative identity comes from the production decisions above and from the way its spirit responds to maturation.
This distinction matters when reading a bottle: the distillery name identifies the origin of the spirit, while the expression, age, cask recipe and bottling strength describe the particular release.
