History

From its beginnings

Alexander Matheson founded the distillery in 1839. The Mackenzie family later guided it for generations and introduced the royal-stag emblem that remains attached to the whisky.

The Dalmore remains an operating Scotch whisky distillery at Alness, Ross-shire. Its present identity joins the accumulated fabric of the site to an active production tradition, while discontinued bottlings belong to the range history rather than defining the distillery today.
