Distinct house style

The Glenrothes produces a rounded Speyside spirit with ripe fruit, gentle spice, and enough weight to support long maturation in sherry-seasoned oak.
Tall stills and slow distillation support a ripe, elegant spirit, while sherry-seasoned oak has long been an important part of the house maturation vocabulary.

History
From its beginnings
The distillery began production in 1879 after being developed beside the Burn of Rothes. Fires and rebuilding punctuated its growth into an important blending and single-malt site.
The Glenrothes remains an operating Scotch whisky distillery at Rothes, Moray. Its present identity joins the accumulated fabric of the site to an active production tradition, while discontinued bottlings belong to the range history rather than defining the distillery today.

Identity
The character
The Glenrothes belongs to Speyside, but region is only a map reference. Its more informative identity comes from the production decisions above and from the way its spirit responds to maturation.
This distinction matters when reading a bottle: the distillery name identifies the origin of the spirit, while the expression, age, cask recipe and bottling strength describe the particular release.
