History

From its beginnings

James Henderson founded Pulteney in 1826 in the fishing town of Wick. For many years the remote site received barley by sea and sent whisky out by boat.

Old Pulteney remains an operating Scotch whisky distillery at Wick, Caithness. Its present identity joins the accumulated fabric of the site to an active production tradition, while discontinued bottlings belong to the range history rather than defining the distillery today.
