History

From its beginnings

Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill founded Talisker in 1830. Fire, rebuilding, and changes of ownership followed, but the distillery retained the unusual still and condenser arrangements behind its character.

Talisker remains an operating Scotch whisky distillery at Carbost, Isle of Skye. Its present identity joins the accumulated fabric of the site to an active production tradition, while discontinued bottlings belong to the range history rather than defining the distillery today.

Founded by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill in 1830, Talisker is Skye's oldest operating distillery. Fire destroyed the still house in 1960, after which the stills were carefully replicated.
